SEYN

SEYN

Socially Engaged Yoga Network (SEYN) supports yoga teachers and community organizations committed to sharing the benefits of yoga with under-resourced communities in the Chicagoland area.  We build partnerships in the fields of community health, social services, environmental sustainability, and education to improve health, empower communities, and leverage resources for positive social change.

Socially Engaged Yoga Network (SEYN) continues our commitment to sharing, learning about, and promoting yoga accessibility, decolonized yoga, healing justice, and social change through community connection and network weaving, collaboration, deep-dive discussions, and celebration.

This year, SEYN is focused on uplifting and supporting antiracism movements, with an eye on dismantling racist systems of power and privilege within the yoga community. In addition to our seasonal gatherings, we will soon offer monthly support circles and SEYN bridge curriculum workshops for yoga leaders, and we’ll periodically go live on Instagram with UPLIFT, our fun check-in chats. For the foreseeable future, all of our programming will be held online.

SEYN SEASONAL GATHERINGS: Yoga and Antiracism Movement - Every season continuing Friday, Jan 22nd, 5:30pm-8:30pm

Welcome back to seasonal gatherings with SEYN! We’re pleased to announce that for the next year, the SEYN get-togethers will center and support antiracist movement organizations and activists.

At these next four events, we will discuss the intersection of antiracist movement values with yoga principles and ideas.

Guided by common themes, we’ll explore together how a liberated and decolonized yoga including breathing, meditation, and mindsets can help sustain and regenerate antiracist, liberation social justice work.

As in our previous events, we’ll engage in compelling panel discussions and enjoy accessible, supportive, relevant yoga practices, and opportunities for connection. We’ll also go deeper with smaller break out sessions.

Anyone doing antiracist movement work and/or interested in how yoga can support movements is welcome to attend. You don’t need to be a yoga practitioner or activist - we only ask that you respect the intention of the event and the centering of Black, Brown, Indigenous, and People of Color (BBIPOC) organizer voices and needs.

We miss the potluck days, and look forward to circling up in person in the future, but for now these events will take place online.

 SEYN CIRCLE:

Second Sundays 4pm - 5pm

TRANSFORMATION STATION: White Accountability Circle for Yoga Leaders

Facilitator: Marcelyn Cole

Yoga leaders with white privilege are being called upon to decolonize your practices and yoga spaces. Some of you have been doing this work all along and some have just begun to learn the harm that colonization, commodification, and white-washing of yoga have caused and to unlearn your own harmful mindsets and behaviors that perpetuate oppression. Either way, the work and journey of antiracism are lifelong. This circle is for processing and sharing the inspiration and challenges that come with unpacking and unlearning racism as a white yoga leader during this time, and to hold each other accountable in the spirit of helping to foster safer, braver, healing, liberated yoga spaces. Circle themes will be guided by antiracism readings from BBIPOC thinkers and leaders.

To be clear, this circle is for teachers who have already begun the work of examining their own privilege and complicity and does NOT take the place of anti-oppression training.
